Christmas Music

15 September, 2022

Christmas... It’s finally here!

Yes, you read that correctly.

It’s September I know, but for content creators and advertisers everywhere, Christmas usually begins now. Given that a lot of Christmas advertising begins around November, and some people even start their shopping in September, planning for this annual event normally starts a long time before the fat man starts sliding down any chimneys.

Now Christmas music is an incredibly polarising topic. Some people love it and can listen to ‘Now That’s What I Call XMAS’ on repeat from September until the middle of January. For others, it’s like nails on a chalkboard every time they walk into a shop during the festive period. I find myself somewhere in the middle, because you’d have to be a particularly cold-hearted scrooge not to feel a wave of nostalgia when certain songs come on (for me it’s ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham, even though I wasn’t alive when it came out).

Let’s face it, it’s a very emotional time of year for a lot of people, for a lot of different reasons. That’s why, although a lot of us pretend to hate Christmas music, the memories attached to certain songs will have even the most miserable grinch singing along with the rest of the family on Christmas day. It’s the excitement of being a child, going downstairs to see what Father Christmas has left, or the stress of buying presents for other people, almost convincing yourself that they’ll hate whatever you’ve bought.

Now, according to the American Society of Composers, authors and publishers, the most played Christmas song of the last 50 years was ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’, and the oldest Christmas song dates back to 129 AD with ‘Angels Hymn’. So, it’s not as recent a phenomenon as most of us think, especially the more cynical among us who think it’s all just for commercial gain. (Most of it nowadays probably is, but at least we know it started with good intentions?)

Of course, times have changed, and we know how important Christmas themed content is for any business this time of year. The great thing about TOTIM is, you don’t have to shop around for Christmas music, we’ve got you covered! There’s already enough stress from standing in a busy shopping mall, with clammy hands waiting in a queue, thinking about how terrible the traffic will be when you’re trying to leave. You don’t have to do that.

We’ve got a great selection here, all in one place at only £2 a track (with no queueing)!
